The Move

Rex was SO happy to finish finals week the third Friday of May. His parents flew into town the night before so as soon as he was done we didn't waste any time and went to celebrate! Rex's friends from school told him we had to eat at Wally's Cafe in Emeryville before we moved and so we made that our first stop. To find this place you have to walk down the road and look for this green dumpster...

Next look up and you will see this sign...

Then you walk down the little alley and walk into the kitchen (not the bar right next to it).

Right away you get a free bowl of yummy lentil soup to eat while you watch Wally cook your food! It is a Mediterranean restaurant (that also has burgers, etc.) and I had a delicious Gyro wrap. After we were done eating Wally gave us a free piece of baklava, which was also yummy. I recommend trying it out if you are in the area.

The story behind this place is that the Pixar employees love to eat here and that they named their movie/robot W.A.L.L.E after this chef. So here we are with the famous Wally...

Hopefully we have the chance to go back someday!

We also wanted to go to the Chabot Space and Science Center before we left so that was our second stop. We had fun learning about our amazing universe and watching some interesting IMAX and planetarium shows.

Since we already met Wally we decided to finish off the day by taking Rex's parents to Fenton's Creamery, which is also a Pixar employee favorite. The little boy, Russell, in the movie UP tells Mr. Fredricksen that his dad used to take him there for ice cream. At the end of the movie it shows the two of them eating ice creams cones on the curb in front of Fenton's. This is what the real one looks like...



We have a been here a couple of times, once or twice with the twins and also with some people from the ward. It's somewhat of a tradition to stop there after a temple session. Its a bit pricey but I recommend you try it out at least once!

On Saturday we finished packing boxes and loaded up the van. I originally thought we would pack most of the stuff on Saturday, rest up on Sunday, and start the drive on Monday morning. However, we ended up packing everything up on Saturday and then hit the road for about an hour until we decided to stop and sleep.

Sunday morning we got up and headed to mom and Steve's house in Nevada. Rex and his dad drove the truck and I drove the car with Adam and Grandma Kimball in the back. Adam was sure happy to have some company for the long trip.

After we arrived we ate some Sunday dinner, unloaded a few things we won't be needing this year at my mom's house and then went to bed. The next morning we left on our way to Utah.

We talked to Aunt Laurel the night before and she told us that it was snowing! Crazy summer weather. By the time we made it on Monday night we were tired of being in the car but we grateful we arrived without any problems.

Once we got there Rex and I got on Craigslist and made our own list of apartments to go look at the next day. We probably had around 8 places to go see on Tuesday and we figured we had a long week of apartment shopping ahead of us. We ended up only looking at a 5 or so of the places that day because we really liked the FIRST one we saw. So Tuesday night we told the landlord we wanted to move in and we went and signed the lease the next day! We felt like we made a very quick decision but we felt good about it all day. We were able to move our stuff in on Wednesday and return the moving truck before we got charged extra for keeping it too long. We felt very blessed to have everything work out so well!

Rex's parents planned to stay until Friday so we had and extra day to spend together before they left. We would of had such a hard time without all of their help. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
