More from May

Here are a few random ones that I didn't want to leave out. I love those chubby cheeks!

During the month of May Adam has...

Mastered rolling over both ways.

Mastered the perfect push up form. This cracks me up!

Mastered scooting around backwards, although it has some drawbacks :)

And the day we packed the moving van he learned to sit up ALL BY HIMSELF.

And let me tell you, he is VERY happy about that accomplishment.

The Move

Rex was SO happy to finish finals week the third Friday of May. His parents flew into town the night before so as soon as he was done we didn't waste any time and went to celebrate! Rex's friends from school told him we had to eat at Wally's Cafe in Emeryville before we moved and so we made that our first stop. To find this place you have to walk down the road and look for this green dumpster...

Next look up and you will see this sign...

Then you walk down the little alley and walk into the kitchen (not the bar right next to it).

Right away you get a free bowl of yummy lentil soup to eat while you watch Wally cook your food! It is a Mediterranean restaurant (that also has burgers, etc.) and I had a delicious Gyro wrap. After we were done eating Wally gave us a free piece of baklava, which was also yummy. I recommend trying it out if you are in the area.

The story behind this place is that the Pixar employees love to eat here and that they named their movie/robot W.A.L.L.E after this chef. So here we are with the famous Wally...

Hopefully we have the chance to go back someday!

We also wanted to go to the Chabot Space and Science Center before we left so that was our second stop. We had fun learning about our amazing universe and watching some interesting IMAX and planetarium shows.

Grandpa Kimball and Adam tried on the space suit.

I think Adam may have to grow into it :)

Since we already met Wally we decided to finish off the day by taking Rex's parents to Fenton's Creamery, which is also a Pixar employee favorite. The little boy, Russell, in the movie UP tells Mr. Fredricksen that his dad used to take him there for ice cream. At the end of the movie it shows the two of them eating ice creams cones on the curb in front of Fenton's. This is what the real one looks like...

We have a been here a couple of times, once or twice with the twins and also with some people from the ward. It's somewhat of a tradition to stop there after a temple session. Its a bit pricey but I recommend you try it out at least once!

Thanks for the treat Grandpa and Grandma!

On Saturday we finished packing boxes and loaded up the van. I originally thought we would pack most of the stuff on Saturday, rest up on Sunday, and start the drive on Monday morning. However, we ended up packing everything up on Saturday and then hit the road for about an hour until we decided to stop and sleep.

Sunday morning we got up and headed to mom and Steve's house in Nevada. Rex and his dad drove the truck and I drove the car with Adam and Grandma Kimball in the back. Adam was sure happy to have some company for the long trip.

After we arrived we ate some Sunday dinner, unloaded a few things we won't be needing this year at my mom's house and then went to bed. The next morning we left on our way to Utah.

We talked to Aunt Laurel the night before and she told us that it was snowing! Crazy summer weather. By the time we made it on Monday night we were tired of being in the car but we grateful we arrived without any problems.

Once we got there Rex and I got on Craigslist and made our own list of apartments to go look at the next day. We probably had around 8 places to go see on Tuesday and we figured we had a long week of apartment shopping ahead of us. We ended up only looking at a 5 or so of the places that day because we really liked the FIRST one we saw. So Tuesday night we told the landlord we wanted to move in and we went and signed the lease the next day! We felt like we made a very quick decision but we felt good about it all day. We were able to move our stuff in on Wednesday and return the moving truck before we got charged extra for keeping it too long. We felt very blessed to have everything work out so well!

Rex's parents planned to stay until Friday so we had and extra day to spend together before they left. We would of had such a hard time without all of their help. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I will write about our new place soon. I promise!

Good Bye Berkeley

Before we left Berkeley we had a BBQ with all of our friends from school. It was cold outside but everyone stuck it out and had fun.

Adam was born pretty soon after three of these awesome ladies had their babies. I really appreciate the support and advice I got from them during pregnancy. It has been fun to hang out together over the last three years!

See you all at graduation next year!

This is Paulette, my amazing friend and visiting teacher. Although Adam isn't smiling here, he loves Paulette. She babysat Adam for us one day and it turned into a REALLY long time. Thanks again Paulette. We love you!

My friend, Jill at her baby shower. We both moved into the Berkeley Ward at about the same time and have been friends ever since. I'm so excited for her to have her baby girl.

My dear friend, Sigrid, in her beautiful yard. I was a nanny for her girls before Adam was born and they have always made me feel like part of their family. I am going to miss you all!

This is the best picture we could get with the sun in our eyes. The twins just finished first grade and they are growing up so fast!

Orly loves babies, especially little Adam!

I also got to go to lunch one more time with my college roommate, Melissa. We tried out a little French place called Gregoire in Berkeley. It was good, but the company was even better!

We met Valerie at church and she instantly fell in love with Adam. We had to watch her closely to make sure she didn't take him home with her!

I would often take Adam on walks in the stroller and I found a house not far from where we lived that I loved. It has the wooden shingles like so many houses in Berkeley and a beautiful variety of plants and flowers. You can't see it very well in the picture but it also has a super tall redwood tree to the right of it.

It has been an adventure living in Berzerkeley. Our last Sunday we were driving to church and crossed paths with a parade of people led by a contraption that resembled a mini circus tent on wheels. They were all dressed up crazy, including a big guy dressed up in a woman's ballet leotard and tutu, proudly bearing his chest hair. Rex's response was, "Adam, I think its time we left this place." While there are a few things I will not miss (i.e. living next to all of the frat houses, the traffic, the cost, etc. there are many things that will be missed...

10. the ocean
9. the forests
8. the beautiful weather
7. the super fresh produce
6. Trader Joes
5. all of the yummy places to eat
4. the walkability
3. the diversity
2. the Berkeley Ward
1. the amazing people!

Thanks for the memories and everything you have taught us. We will miss you!

Happy Half Birthday!

Our little Adam is 6 months old already! He is so much fun right now. I love to make him smile and watch him discover so many new things. For his half birthday we walked over to the park to try out the swing. I don't think he hated it, but he didn't seem too impressed either. Maybe he was just a little tired. Either way, he looked so stinkin' cute in the swing!

A few more pictures from the last couple of weeks...

"Hi Mom"

"How many pictures are you going to take this time?"

"I think this chair is for little babies."

"Okay, I'm bored. Get me out of here please."

Our predictions were right. Adam is a MOVER. He has mastered sitting up and is now rolling and scooting all over the place. He scoots himself by doing a push up and holding himself in a plank position until his feet slide back and he moves backwards. It his pretty funny to watch, although I know he is frustrated that he is moving backward instead of forward.

I know this picture is blurry but I think it is hilarious how high this push up is!

I left him in the middle of the room with a bunch of toys and this is where he ended up...

His face says it all...this little boy LOVES being outside and going for walks. He usually holds onto the sides of his carseat with both hands like he is going on a wild roller coaster. It's pretty funny.

Rex still dries him with the blow dryer after his bath and he still loves it.

"Can Daddy do my hair everyday?"

Adam now prefers to sleep on his side.

Playtime

(This is how he "holds on for dear life.")

Playing is hard work!
